Aurora Aksnes' earliest memory of music is finding an old grand piano hidden in the attic. The piano was fascinating to her the possibilities it offered. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. The Aksnes family encouraged her to not to play music only for pleasure or for the sake of development but instead, she must take it seriously. As a result, she began writing the music she composed herself. She is credited with Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Bjork as her main influences. To counter her mother's suggestion that people should not be aiming at achieving fame through the songs she writes, but rather recognize the significance of their lives and their impact on society. She was suggested by her mother to perform her songs publicly to help people realize their importance and the ways they can affect the world. She didn't tell her family about it until she turned 14. Aurora never dreamed of becoming a star. She claims that she enjoys writing songs. She believes that music can help people feel more relaxed.
